Absolutely! Adding any type of window treatment to your windows will help with energy efficiency to a degree (do you see what we did there?). Currently, honeycomb cellular shades are the highest-rated window treatment in terms of energy efficiency but there are many other options as well. As their names imply, real wood blinds are manufactured from wood, while faux wood blinds are constructed from polymer to mimic wood. Real wood blinds or shutters have the widest variety of painted colors and stains available. Their finish highlights the natural characteristics of wood. Faux wood blinds and shutters resemble real wood but are made from materials that provide moisture and scratch resistance. Faux wood blinds are ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, garages, or utility rooms.

A dog trainer! But seriously, the best option is to find a way to reduce their contact with the window treatment. Damage most often occurs because pets want to look out the window. Keeping the bottoms raised will reduce their need to nose their way around to see out. Cordless options reduce the temptation for pets to play with the control systems of your blinds and shades. Remember, no window treatment is animal proof but there are ways to cater to our canine and feline family members. Your second option? Keep buying new blinds!

Typically Faux Wood Blinds are our most cost effective product, followed by Wood Blinds and then Roller, Solar, or Cellular Shades depending on specific window configurations, control selections, and fabric choices. 

Draperies, Shutters, and automated/motorized products of all types are premium products that each provide you with different features, functionality and style for your home. We recommend allowing us to come to your home, measure, and provide you pricing for your specific set of windows so that you can get exactly what you want and need. 

For the majority of our products, frequent use and regular dusting is sufficient to keep them fresh and clean. We can provide you with specific fabric care instructions for your particular window treatments if needed.

Please be aware that we DO NOT RECOMMEND the following: 

• Spot cleaning – We don’t recommend spot cleaning of any window treatment unless specifically approved by the manufacturer for your particular product and fabric.
• Dry cleaning –  We don’t recommend dry cleaning your draperies or soft treatments unless absolutely necessary (i.e. they have spots or stains). Drapery material can shrink and your drapes may not look the same as they did prior to dry cleaning.  

If you’re looking for a dust resistant product, our best recommendation is the Allure Transitional Shade by Lafayette or the Designer Banded Shades by Hunter Douglas – no dusting required!

Minimizing cords is the number one priority when looking for child and pet safe window treatments. Cordless and motorized/automated window treatments are the best options – especially for homes with young children (grandparents – this means you too!) and those with pets. We recognize cordless and automated options are not always available for every configuration. When cords are needed, we secure cord loops/chains to reduce the chance of getting caught in the controls. If you have a loose cord on a blind (for example, a wood blind with cord lift), we recommend wrapping the cord around the provided cord cleat, high enough that children can’t reach it.
