The best way for us to get to know your needs, likes, dislikes, style, and preferences is a consultation! Here are 3 tips to ensure you get the most out of our time together:

  1. Plan to spend anywhere from 45-90 minutes with your consultant.  
  2. Be sure that all decision makers are present.
  3. Be ready to enjoy the process!

If you’re quick to make decisions and know what you like and don’t like, the appointment will likely be on the shorter side. If you’re more deliberative, need time to consider your options, or aren’t sure what you might like, your appointment may run a little longer.  

And, while it’s common that one person in the household is more excited about the design choices for their window coverings, all members of the household will have to live with the products for many years. This is the time that you’ll have to ask each other about preferences and to see color options and samples. Having both decision makers present allows everyone to weigh in.

Overall, don’t stress over the details. Our trained team knows the questions to ask and will guide you every step of the way.

We have hundreds of options for you to browse and we’ll bring your curated selection of samples to our in-home consultation.

Custom window treatments are made specifically for each window and lead times vary substantially by product, manufacturer, and market demands. For context – standard blinds and shades could be anywhere from 6-8 weeks or more while custom drapery and shutters sometimes take 12-16 weeks or more! While we can give you an estimate based on your project during the consultation, you’ll be provided with weekly order update emails once your order is placed.

As soon as possible! There are so many factors to consider, and the Schammerhorn team is experienced in working with clients, designers, builders, contractors, and electricians to make sure you can get exactly what you want with your new window treatments. From helping choose products and providing ballpark quotes, to making final selections, planning for electrical wiring, and giving you estimated lead times to plan accordingly, we’re here every step of the way. 

We have a great warranty on our products and workmanship alongside manufacturer warranties. Check out Schammerhorn’s 1-Year Residential Warranty. Manufacturer warranties can be provided, based on the products selected, as requested.

Custom window treatments are an investment in the beauty and style of your home. Pricing varies greatly depending on window size, product type, and control systems.  Motorization, for example, is an option that can add $300-500 or more per window treatment on average. Our clients typically invest between 2-5% of the total value of their home on custom window treatments. Your investment will depend on product selection and whether you do one, several, or all the windows in your home.

Schammerhorn offers truly custom window treatments. Our products aren’t manufactured until measurements are taken and orders are placed; and prices can vary greatly based on size, quantity, and options chosen. Due to this, we’re unable to provide a price over the phone. Feel free to call us or stop by our showroom with details on your project, including quantity, width and height of the windows you’re looking to cover, and the product(s) you’re interested in. If you don’t know what you want, call to make an appointment with a trained member of our sales team to come see our showroom and discuss window treatments and options! Either way, our Residential Consultant will work on a personalized ballpark estimate and email or call you with the details within 3 business days. 

Absolutely! Our high-end, top of the line manufactured exterior shades include options such as hold downs, guide cables, zipper tracks, and of course motorization! Feel free to check out our social media feeds for inspirational project photos.

Electrical shades are far more complex than you might imagine. From battery to rechargeable battery, DC to AC, line voltage to low voltage and beyond, the motor options can be overwhelming and specifications can change based on the product type and size of your windows. When you’re a Schammerhorn client, we specialize in the details so you don’t have to! We’ll work directly with your electrician to ensure each window is powered appropriately.

Schammerhorn is fully equipped to handle commercial jobs of all shapes and sizes.  From 1 window to 500+ windows, we have a team that can support all of your commercial needs. Our projects span from 1-10 window jobs all the way to whole hospitals, schools, apartment buildings and more! 

When Schammerhorn receives an RFP, it is evaluated for scope and feasibility and put onto our bid schedule according to the stated bid deadline. Should you have a specific project that you would like us to bid, please feel free to contact the office to discuss with our commercial team.

Design Trade

Absolutely! This option is one of the benefits of belonging to our Design Trade program.  Please be sure to check with our office because there are a few limitations and details to know.

We don’t have an on-site workroom. However, we have long-standing professional relationships with multiple workrooms and source the perfect fit for each project based on the specifications and requirements of each job. Your clients’ custom window treatments will be made according to all of the top professional standards. The best part? The Schammerhorn team has been selling and installing soft treatments and drapery for years. We can guide you every step of the way, as needed, to ensure a smooth and successful project! 

We do! Members of our Design Trade program have full access to check out our wide variety of sample books, hand samples, and order memos / sample swatches for their clients. Please contact the office to schedule your sample book / hand sample checkout to ensure it’s available on the date and time you need it. We ask that books and hand samples are checked out no longer than 24 hours so everyone has access to what they need.

There are so many details that go into window treatments and we want the best possible product, fit, installation, and experience for everyone involved. 

Installation

Installation times vary by project size and product selection. We’ll give you the estimated time frame for your project when we schedule installation so you can plan accordingly.

We don’t require you to be at home for the entirety of the install. However, in our experience, it’s best to have someone familiar with the project on-site. They can let our installers into your home and answer any questions that might arise. When they’re finished, our installer can walk you through how to operate your new window treatments and answer any questions you might have. This is especially helpful for motorized/automated window treatments! 

Yes! We allow consumers to purchase products from us and do their own installations. Shutters, draperies and most of our motorized products are excluded from this service.

Important: Please be advised that customer installations don’t necessarily void a manufacturer warranty if installed properly; however, products that aren’t installed by Schammerhorn are not covered by Schammerhorn’s 1-Year Warranty and are required to be returned to store for inspection for any/all warranty and/or defect/manufacturing claims. 

Schammerhorn and its Manufacturers take no liability for product defects caused by incorrect installation.

Repairs

More often than not… we do! Bring in your broken shade or part and we’ll work to repair or replace your product or part. We restring blinds and cellular/honeycomb shades, lengthen cords, replace tilt gears or broken wands, and more! If your shade is too big for you to take down on your own – give us a call. We’ll schedule a time to come out and either repair on-site or take the window treatment back to our shop to get that much-needed TLC. Lead times for repairs can vary so be prepared to temporarily cover your window in the meantime! 

We carry a range of parts. If you’re in need of something specific, bring us all of the pieces of the broken part or product and we’ll see what we can do for you. Please know we don’t have access to parts for entry-level products sold by Amazon, Walmart, etc. Those products are typically priced to be replaced when broken rather than to be repaired and component parts aren’t available for purchase.

We certainly can! Our goal is to make repairs quick and easy for all of our customers. If we can, we always prefer to repair on-site during our first visit to your home or business. However, there are times when due to part availability or the complexity of the repair, we have to take them back to our shop or send them to the factory to complete the repair and return when finished to install your blind. Lead times for repairs can vary so be prepared to temporarily cover your window in the meantime if necessary!

WARRANTY

Schammerhorn is willing to repair products, as able, which were not purchased through Schammerhorn. However, they are not eligible for the Schammerhorn 1-Year Warranty and may be ineligible for the manufacturer’s warranty. All repairs done on-site will include our minimum standard service charge as well as the cost of labor and parts at time of repair. Alternatively, you can bring your product to our store for assessment and repair.

Customer installations do not necessarily void a manufacturer warranty if installed properly; however, products that are not installed by Schammerhorn are not covered by the Schammerhorn’s 1-Year Warranty and are required to be returned to store for inspection for any/all warranty and/or defect/manufacturing claims. Please be advised that Schammerhorn and its Manufacturers take no liability for product defects caused by incorrect installation.

Site visits by Schammerhorn are only covered under no charge warranty if Schammerhorn sold and installed the product within the last year. All site visits and at-home inspections will be subject to our minimum service charge and labor at the time of the appointment.

Schammerhorn repairs the majority of shades in house or on-site. However, certain lift systems and repairs need to be sent to the factory. In this event, we’re happy to facilitate the repair with the Manufacturer as able. 

  • If the product falls within the Schammerhorn 1-Year Warranty period, no additional costs will be incurred. 
  • If the product is outside the Schammerhorn 1-Year Warranty period, we will facilitate the repair and the customer will be billed for any shipping, handling, and repair costs. 
  • If your product is covered under the Manufacturer’s Warranty, the customer will be responsible for shipping/handling charges and other exclusionary charges.
